Reconsidering abolishing School Building Funds as a DGR category

Alistair Macpherson appeared before the Productivity Commission this week on behalf of Associated Christian Schools as the Executive Director of Public Policy & Advocay, discussing the importance of education as a charitable activity. Together with colleagues Mark Spencer and Vanessa Cheng, he called on the Productivity Commission to reconsider it’s draft recommendation to abolish School Building Funds as a DGR category. Schools deliver a substantial benefit to the broader community, and charitable giving to their activities should be encouraged and supported by all levels of government. As a school principal shared with Alistair, it would be “short-sighted in the extreme” to abolish School Building Funds.
